Oriental Medicine (OM) is a traditional Chinese medical practice that is based on the concept of balanced flow of energy through human bodies. The Division of Public Health and Community Dentistry is charged with providing future leaders with the skills necessary to care for a community as well as individuals within the community. Through our teaching program, research program, and community service our Division continues to meet this challenge. Oriental medicine programs that result in certification, like the certificate in Chinese herbal medicine (CCHM), are often offered as a post-graduate course to licensed acupuncture practitioners interested in enhancing credentials and education in herbology. I don’t recall exactly the name, but I recall watching a series of documentaries about how biblical stories reflect observations made by people of that age, however did not have the understanding of things as we do today, so described these events in a way which made sense to them at that time with their understandings. The Chinese have their own view on cosmetology, so studying to become a beauty expert in this country is a fascinating experience. A two-year program in Chinese cosmetology often includes learning a lot about traditional techniques like acupuncture, herbal medicine, and guasha (which are offered as quite expensive advanced courses on our continent). The thing is that an applicant is supposed to have a medical or healthcare educational background to start these courses, otherwise they are just not eligible. This makes Chinese cosmetology highly professional. One particular technique that can be helpful is computer guided surgery. This is increasingly being used by dental implant dentists wishing to provide their patients with the very best treatment. Additional careers in complementary medicine like massage therapy offer candidates unique ways to help in healing through a variety of bodywork modalities. Passed down from ancient healing art practitioners of long ago, massage therapy is proving to be a valuable and effective healthcare option to many. Individuals desiring to work in this field should be aware that training can often be completed in less than one year; however, practical instruction is in-depth and includes basic health sciences in anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology, and of course, massage therapy.
Dr. Chapin A. Harris and Dr. Horace H. Hayden recognized that the scientific dental profession needed a systematic system of formal education. Their efforts are responsible for the creation of this college as well as the development of dentistry as a recognized profession. New dental schools viewed this college as a prototype, modeling their dental education programs after it. I have always been so passionate about physical health and just recently realized that a Physical Therapist is what I want to become after an injury I had. My undergraduate performance ended with a 3.82 GPA in Political Science and I will be starting the prerequisites next semester so that upon completion, with the required GPA minimum (and hopefully much higher) I can apply to a DPT program. Depending on chiropractic courses in which you choose to enroll, programs range from four to five years in duration; with a minimum of 4,200 class and clinical training hours. Chiropractic courses will first introduce students to the philosophies and principles of chiropractic. In addition, students will gain necessary skills and knowledge in human anatomy, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry, biomechanics, and neuroscience. Greek medicine was so powerful, all-encompassing and successful that the Romans made few advances. For most of the duration of the Roman Empire, Greek physicians were employed. They enjoyed the status of free citizens and one of their number, Galen (Latin name Claudius Galenus, c. AD 130-201), combined the theory of the humours with his own studies in anatomy and physiology to produce a comprehensive medical encyclopedia, which remained a standard reference for more than 1000 years despite the fact that his anatomical descriptions, which were based on dissections he had carried out on animals, were riddled with errors. Rome’s only contribution to the history of medicine was its development of an elaborate public health system, entailing garbage and sewage disposal, public baths, and a good fresh water supply. You have a number of aesthetic options for your teeth. Tooth whitening has become one of the most popular ways to improve your smile. We offer in-surgery whitening or at-home whitening, depending on which treatment plan will work best. It is the study of media environments, the idea that technology and techniques, modes of information and codes of communication play a leading role in human affairs. The first year at the University prepares students to achieve a level of knowledge necessary to assimilate the more challenging medical and dental science subjects in the later phases. Students will be exposed to new learning methods in both physical and biological sciences in the form of problem-based learning, group projects, critical and lateral thinking, scientific literature search and academic writing. Self-directed learning philosophy will be emphasized and other academic and social activities are conducted to mould a smooth transfer from high school education to University Campus life.
